I’m lucky enough at the moment to be staying in a beach house owned by one of my best friend’s parents.  I’ve spent a lot of time in their houses over the years and I have appreciated every minute of it.  But the reason I am writing this little post is that the decoration in each place is always special; so well done, but so simple with individual pieces from everywhere all placed together to make a complete look.  To give you just a little bit of an insight into what I mean just check out this little snapshot below.  Its just a simple armchair, loose white cover, one gorgeous cushion with birds embroidered on it and a plain red cushion to add a splash of colour.  There is a matching chair too of course, and they are both framed by the wonderful treetop outlook with glimpses of the ocean.  I’m inspired by this because it is done thoughtfully, without the need to spend heaps of money, to create a great feel in the holiday house.  You could do this too.  K x

You may come to realise overtime that I do fancy a bit of black and white when it comes to interiors… have a look at these black and white curtains - striking and bold.  And yet somehow they don’t dominate the room. Love them. Not to mention the rest of this room, I’d be super motivated if this was my home office!

I really just wanted to say Happy New Year! I hope 2012 is everything you want it to be and more… I’m a bit of a softie when it comes to sayings so here it’s the first one to begin the year, and I think its perfect for us…

Just before Christmas we delivered some great outdoor soft furnishings – bench seat cushions & throw cushions – I wanted to show you.  This family were setting up their home for a big Christmas day and so were motivated to create more seating – they found it in an area that had previously been used for pot plants! The end result was this gorgeous oversized outdoor bench seat that could easily be used for a daybed.

The choice of a dark mocha colour fabric for the bench cushions was perfect for a house where there are children and pets, and it looks great too.  This was complemented by some big throw cushions in an Apple coloured ticking stripe fabric – they just looked fantastic together and went back perfectly with their existing outdoor setting.  Covered by a pergola, it will be a space they can use all year round now to really enjoy their outdoor space even more.
